To England’s disappointment, Australia won their last match against them and was the first team to be qualified for the ICC World Cup 2019 Semi-finals! Australia did this by defeating England by 64 runs on Tuesday at the Lord’s Cricket Ground.

While England is currently on the fourth position on the points table with a total of eight points only from the seven matches they have played. These points and the defeat against Australia has definitely left this year’s hosts in a very dangerous position. England can easily fall out of the competition before reaching the last-four stage.

Australia’s skipper Aaron Flinch hit a century and lead his team to a proficient 285 runs for 7 wickets. While England’s start itself was off as they slumped to 26 runs for 3 wickets in the beginning. Ben Stokes ignored his call injury to formulate an 89 but it was not necessary as the hosts, England, was not close to their target.

This match was a serious concern for England as in the 2019 ICC World Cup,  this is their third defeat. However, while England was upset, this defeat opened the doors to other ICC World Cup 2019 teams. The hosts were considered the Favourites and were expected to reach the semi-finals along with India, Australia and New Zealand.

The dream of semi-finals might just be a dream for the England team now. However, if they win the last two matches then there might still get to be in the race.

It is celebration time for the Australian team and the Aussies around the world as not only were they qualified for the semi-finals, but were the first ones to do so. There might be small hope for England and Sri Lanka if Aaron Finch and his team lose the next two matches giving all three teams the same score of 12 points. However, Australia will definitely make it through as they have more wins.
