Four long years later, the ICC World Cup has returned! This time around, it is hosted by England and Wales. Speaking about the tournament, India’s captain Virat Kohli says, ‘You cannot place a World Cup win below anything else. It is always going to be the most important tournament in world cricket.  It is a global tournament, and the significance and the charm of the tournament is something else.’ This surely means that the captain and the Indian team will be giving their best for the most important global tournament!

While the team is warming up for the tournament, Rishabh Pant has been injured and he will not be playing at the upcoming World Cup in England and Wales. The team will definitely miss Rishabh Pant but it seems that the former Indian captain and the present captain MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli have everything in control.

According to Indian spinner Kuldeep Yadav, Dhoni seems to be the Indian team’s backbone as he understands a batsman’s body language very quickly.  He also says that while Dhoni gives the team freedom, Kohli boosts their confidence. Indian batsman Suresh Raina also says that MS Dhoni is the captain of the captains. It seems that the present captain Virat Kohli also feels confident when Dhoni is behind the stumps.

A lot of veteran cricket players have their opinions about team India in this World Cup.

Former India cricketer Sachin Tendulkar says that Virat Kohli alone can’t win the 2019 World Cup for India. He goes on to say, ‘Without team support, you can’t do much. Just because of one individual, you can’t win a tournament. No way. Unless others chip in at every crucial stage. If that doesn’t happen, there will be a disappointment.’

Former Pakistan captain Zaheer Abbas says, ‘India has a genius called Mahendra Singh Dhoni in the team. He is the brain of cricket in the team and can be their trump card. He understands the game so well and has experience of leading India in two World Cup wins.’

Team India’s head coach Ravi Shastri, is also rooting for the wicketkeeper and former captain MS Dhoni as he says, ‘There’s no one better than him when it comes to keeping and also dealing with those tight situations in matches. It was great to see the way he was moving in this IPL.’

The legendary Kapil Dev also has something to say for team India, ‘If the captain doesn’t have confidence then how will he inject the same into other members’. While this one was for the captain, it was also for the team to believe in themselves.

The 2019 ICC World Cup is definitely a big World Cup for Kohli and talking about it he says, ‘There’s no bigger motivation for the team than Indian Army. When you talk about the Indian Army, the role they play, there is no comparison with that. If every player kept the Indian Army in mind, the side will get an extra boost.’

It sure does look like the Indian team is ready by the captain’s words. Coming to the prize money, the winners of 2019 ICC World Cup will get rize money of $4 million (₹28 crore), while the runners-up will be awarded $2 million (₹14 crore). The losing semi-finalists will get $800,000 (₹5.6 crore) each and the winners of each league stage match will get $40,000 (₹28 lakh).
