Karan Johar Claims that Dostana 2 will see Accurate, Non-Caricaturish Representation of the LGBTQ+ Community


Filmmaker Karan Johar has been the talk of the town ever since he announced Dostana 2. The movie stars Kartik Aaryan, Janhvi Kapoor and Lakshya and has finally wrapped up its Punjab schedule recently. The first installment of Dostana was released in 2008 starring John Abraham, Priyanka Chopra and Abhishek Bachchan. The plot of the movie revolved around two men who pretend to be gay to share an apartment with a girl but later they fall in love with her. Talking about Dostana 2 on a chat show, Karan Johar revealed that the evolution from one Dostana to the other is drastic. The Dostana that released in 2008 and the Dostana 2 that’s releasing in 2020, will show the audience an accurate, non-caricaturish and on-pointrepresentation of the LGBTQ+ Community. He further said that the movie will talk about sexuality in a way that will not make you cringe while watching it.The filmmaker proceeded to add, “So therein lies the fact that in the last 12 years, there has been a solid change in the way we depict gay characters. Even in ‘Kapoor & Sons’ and the way it was depicted.” At the session titled ‘Ten things men must change about Bollywood’, the filmmaker spoke about item numbers and a lot more. He said that he believes that there were not going to be any repercussions,‘Cinema is such an impressionable medium. It was just things that we didn’t think of and then when we are told, we realise that they are true, we’ve to apologise to the society that we possibly scarred as a result of what we put out there.’
